So many pundits have taken today (Martin Luther King Day) and its relation to tomorrow's inauguration of Barack Obama to make the point, as simplistic as it is inaccurate, that Obama's election is the fulfillment of Dr. King's "dream." A more destructive lesson would be difficult to fathom.
Doctor King spoke of racial equality. He spoke of Blacks and Whites and all other races uniting as Americans, not as racial groups.
And this will be the day — this will be the day when all of God’s children will be able to sing with new meaning:My country ’tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing.
Land where my fathers died, land of the Pilgrim’s pride,
From every mountainside, let freedom ring!
And if America is to be a great nation, this must become true.
But the racial-group mindset is exactly what won the day in 2008. Barack Obama will be President tomorrow because 95% of black voters voted for the partially-black guy. Barack Obama won because, harsh as this sounds, Black America is currently more racist than White America. Doctor King did not dream of a country where a man would be elected because of the color of his skin. He said the opposite.
Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. Now is the time to make justice a reality for all of God’s children....I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
I have a dream today!
Were Doctor King alive today, that dream and a dollar would buy him a Coke. America voted the color of a man's skin over the content of his character.
What of Obama's character? Was he elected because of the kind of character that sees nothing wrong with spending 20 years listening to the hate-speech of a white-hating pastor, while subjecting his family to the same? Or the character needed to climb to the heights of the scummy landscape of Chicago politics? Or the kind of character needed to pal around with terrorists like William Ayres and Rashid Khalidi?
The fact that 43 percent of White voters went for Obama shows Whites are less intelligent than they are racist. The 95 percent Black vote for Obama can be seen as nothing but a slap in the face to Martin Luther King Junior and his dream.

WTF is up with readers thinking we write for grades? I fail?
You are one smart cookie.
McKinney is a loon and most of the 47 people in America who know who she is know that. She got what, the Green Party nomination? The fact that you have heard of her and still would mention her name as a reasonable candidate for President of the United States of America tells me all I need to know about you, and cements the fact that you were going to vote for a black person no matter what.
I would try to convince you that next to nobody knows who she is, but you did that for me by (in all your brilliance) getting her name wrong all three times you mentioned her.
If you are parading about Obama being inaugurated, I fear your intelligence and judgment is on par with both your ability to spell and your ability to slip a fake email address past me.
Have a nice day. And thank you in advance for what the next four years will bring. I'm sure it will be much better for me than it will be for you, since I don't rely on government to take care of me.
Damn, you people are easy.
It has been a long journey for improvements on civil rights and equality and with Obama being sworn in, the civil rights movement have come full circle since the "I have a dream speech". I hope Obama can concentrate on increasing jobs, advancing education, and the decreasing of our dependence on fossil fuels.
Ha,
Well played good sir, indeed I didn't bother trying to get Cynthia's name correct or spoofing an e-mail to respond to your silly article (I see that is NOT respected), but good to know my argument was sound enough for you to just attack what didn't really matter. You have a point in nobody not knowing who Cynthia was but again who's fault is that? The whole independent movement failed flat on it's face as they do every election as they couldn't even get a % of votes that they was aiming for (5% I believe?). The same way the Republicans failed flat on their face as their racist undertones alienated themselves from the Black community. And me bringing her up means I would've voted for a Black person - like her anyway? Again you miss me with this racist nonsense since as you pointed out I cared less about the dingbat in the first place to get her name right so again your "Black votes for Black!!" logic falls on it's face. I guess "RACISM" is also why we also went Democrat the past few presidential elections and why Hillary was winning the Black popularity contest in the polls throughout 2007, heh riiiiight keep telling yourself that.
I see how funny you folks are though, and when backed into a corner you expose people's email? What an excellent way to show how classy you are in a debate. I guess the eventual blowup in my spam folder will be the price I'll pay for hurting your feelings. Enjoy today and the next four years? Yes I will.
The reason McKinney is not well-known, is as you know, because she is both a loon and a 3rd party candidate.
The overwhelming majority of Republicans never mentioned race nor care about it. Your "racist undertones" which, unsurprisingly you don't back up, were non-existent and a figment of your own overactive imagination.
Classy? You write a comment where your first point is that "this article is utter fail" and expect me to be classy? Not gonna happen, sir.
If you could refute the truth that, in fact, 95% of a race voted for one person, that there were Black Panthers intimidating people from voting for someone other than Obama, and that his supporters are calling this a watershed moment for the black community, then I might respond as if your comments were deserving of serious discussion. But since you can't, because the facts back up my "failure" of an article, I will continue to mock you. Good day.
Well since you're clutching onto the 95% number then lets elaborate on that shall we? Yes you point out that a strong majority of us (95% correct?) voted for Obama but see the problem with that is, 95% isn't far from the 88% mark that John Kerry achieved in 2004 with the Black vote so again you miss me with your silly, laughable, and hilarious oversight in this that has me ridicule such an article that did half-assed research overlooking the historcal fact that we leaned heavily Democrat in recent history. Oh but since you're so passionate about this 95% figure then lets take a deeper look shall we?
Dems 2004: Hispanic=53% White=41% Asian=56% Other=54%
Dems 2008: Hispanic=67% White=44% Asian=62% Other=66%
Hey look at that, turns out that OTHER ethnic groups also seen a Democratic percentage hike from 2004 election to better explain the 88% to 95% increase in the Black vote following trends between elections and suggest that Obama's ethnicity is just a "cherry on the top" factor that more so is used for material of inspiration & media filler. There's also the absolute sheer comedy of you essentially arguing that the 6-7% increase (which is not as much as that of a couple other groups) is pure racism. So what about the 88% of Black people who would vote democrat anyway?
BWAHAHA!! So these phantom radical pan-African Black Panthers (let me guess, they was chilling with the Easter bunny who was wearing a Dashiki right?) enforced things also in other elections where the Black vote is heavily towards 90% Democrat even between two white guys? Wow this is rich.
Ah man, while I have heard interesting & excellent conservative arguments, seems that yours on how Black people are so racist is really a "figment of your own overactive imagination", and as a result you have given me and many others comedic gold. Thanks a ton good sir.
Back in November, the House passed its health care bill by a narrow 220 to 215 margin, with 39 Democrats voting against it. Since then, the one Republican who voted for it — Joseph Cao — has indicated that he would not support the bill a second time around given the weaker language on abortion in the Senate version. In addition, Florida Rep. Robert Wexler already retired prematurely. Factor in Murtha’s death today, and Pelosi is down to 217 votes — one short of passage. To pass the bill at some point in the next few months, she’ll need to flip a Democrat who is already on record voting against the bill.

Don't think that Republicans can't be sucked in when an anti-Wall Street lynch mob gets its blood up. Recall that Sarbanes-Oxley, the devastating antigrowth response in 2002 to the Enron and Worldcom scandals, was passed with virtually unanimous support by Republicans in Congress, and signed by a Republican president. Recall that last year 85 House Republicans voted for a 90% tax on bonuses for any employee of any bank that took more than $5 billion in TARP money. Investors got some good news last Friday. Stocks resisted following through on Thursday's sharp plunge after (Congress) reached an impasse on bank re-regulation. That's a nice down payment on what investors need a lot more of now: proof that the GOP won't join Democrats in a populist rush to seek revenge against Wall Street.

Just two years after Mr. Obama helped his party pull in record Wall Street contributions — $89 million from the securities and investment business, according to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics — some of his biggest supporters, like Mr. Dimon, have become the industry’s chief lobbyists against his regulatory agenda. Republicans are rushing to capitalize on what they call Wall Street’s “buyer’s remorse” with the Democrats. And industry executives and lobbyists are warning Democrats that if Mr. Obama keeps attacking Wall Street “fat cats,” they may fight back by withholding their cash.

The Dow, down almost 104 points, had its 10th triple-digit move in 16 trading days. Shares of big banks pulled the market lower, extending a slump that has led to four straight weekly losses.I can't, for the life of me, understand why bank stocks would be dropping. Inexplicable.

Contrary to President Obama's promises, voters say special interests have more influence on the political process now than they did a year ago, according to a new poll. The poll, paid for by groups looking to curb the Supreme Court's recent campaign finance ruling, found that majorities of both Republicans and Democrats say special interests have increased their influence since the president took office, and they say Mr. Obama has not done enough to fight back.

If the starting point for this meeting is the job-killing bills the American people have already soundly rejected, Republicans would rightly be reluctant to participate,” the pair explained in a letter to White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel. They also said President Barack Obama should remove reconciliation from the table. Using budget reconciliation rules to move healthcare reform in the Senate would mean Democrats would only need 51 votes on procedural measures instead of 60... On Sunday afternoon however, Obama refused to say he would start from scratch.

The scientist at the centre of the “climategate” email scandal has revealed that he was so traumatised by the global backlash against him that he contemplated suicide. Jones, 57, said he was unprepared for the scandal: “I am just a scientist. I have no training in PR or dealing with crises.”Actually, he's using the term "scientist" loosely there, given that real scientists don't do what he did. And while he may not have any training dealing with crises, he sure was good at generating one: it was called the global warming crisis.

This article is utter fail my friend.
The "OMG Ayers! Wright!" arguments have been ran into the ground especially with the guilty by association that McCain & his running mate fell into.
As far as the fact that 95% of black voters went for Obama being a slap in the face of MLK? Please, the perceived view of the race that the republicans ran is that their interests is NOT going to be met with a right wing that is full of racist undertones. Furthermore, this silly argument is discounting the fact that many other black candidates also ran for president without much success and if Black voters was really as racist as you make them out to be then Obama wouldn't have been the first.
Furthermore, Cynthia McKinnley a black woman also ran for president. Going by your logic she should've split the Barack Obama vote, but more importantly she also should've grabbed more votes from Black voters then McCain/Palin. Fact is more black people went for McCain/Palin then McKinnley who's running mate was also an hispanic woman. As a result McKinnley didn't even register 10% of the Black vote that McCain pulled in (and even feel free to add in Alan Keyes vote tally). So this "black people only vote for their own color!!" argument is as stupid as can be and is seemingly made to hide one's own insecurities.
Nice job trying to rain on everyone's parade, you provided me and various others reading this Onion-worthy article tons of laughs.
