Passing by the Doris C. Freedman Plaza today, I spotted this sculpture, “El Che” (pictured below in another city), by the German artist Christian Jankowski.

The base of the sculpture is inscribed with a Che quote that my ignorance of Spanish prohibited me from deciphering. But I’m pretty sure it wasn’t an apology for committing acts of terror and helping to derail a country for nearly half a century.
And from the splitting-hairs department, we are told that the sculptor intended the figure to represent a guy who dresses up like Guevara, not Guevara himself.
And this sculptor knew a guy who looked like George Washington and made this statue of the look-alike, which sits in Union Square in New York.

And these 4 guys aren't actually presidents, but the resemblances to the real guys were so remarkable, we carved them into the side of a mountain.

The statue of Che Guevara should be removed. The childish lie that the statue depicts somebody else is an insult to our intelligence. Communist Cuban thug killers deserve no public acknowledgment other than to serve as a reminder of the depths of human depravity.

Aw, come on Alicia, Che was a Freedom Fighter. You didn't know that?
So you said that he was a freedom fighter,ja,ja,ja.Is amazing your level of ignorance of what comunism is, for your info, Che Guevara was a cold blood killer a real mao/stalin"s student, who never was a freedom fighter, he was a totalitarian , a comunist and for your info in the comunism simply the freedom does not exist.
Pedro.
Pedro, sometimes sarcasm is lost in print. I was kidding about the freedom fighter thing. The liberals love the guy and that is how they would have responded to Alicia's comment.
I wrote the post and here is a quote (with no sarcasm): "The statue of Che Guevara should be removed. The childish lie that the statue depicts somebody else is an insult to our intelligence. Communist Cuban thug killers deserve no public acknowledgment other than to serve as a reminder of the depths of human depravity."
We are as anti-Commie on this site as you can get. Take a look around and you will see.
I think you and I are on the same page.
WE ARE IN THE SAME SIDE OF THE RIVER, SORRY MY INDIGNATION FOR THE STATUE MADE ME REACT LIKE THAT, A BIG HUG FOR YOU AND I APOLOGIZE FOR THE MISUNDERSTANDING .GOD BLESS AMERICA!
NOTE : BILL I AM ADDING A LETTER THAT I SENT VIA E-MAIL TO MAYOR BLOOMBERG ABOUT IT.HAVE A NICE WEEK.PEDRO
Mr. Mayor I received via Internet information about a permit granted from the City of New York for an Statue of the cold blood killer Ernesto Che Guevara. Such statue would be a monument to violence and to a person who, according to his own words was feeling great with the smell of the blood of whom he killed. Another point is, Che Guevara professed a visceral hate against the USA, which he espressed in every speech or statement made by him everywhere. In Cuba, as chief of La Cabaña Fortress in Havana, for the first six months in 1959, he was in charge of the execution of several hundred Cubans murdered as enemies of the revolution without judicial protection. A blood bath that provoked then a worldwide outcry (see the Us press of those days). It would therefore be an insane act to erect an statue of the cold blood killer Che Guevara in a public place on USA territory. Finally, as an American Citizen and part of the Cuban community, I have to take this as an insult to people that respect the laws and that are proudly located in the positive side of the American Society. Mr. Mayor, for ctizens who love freedom and dignity, an statue of the killer Che Guevara is like an statue of Adolph Hitler in the middle of Manhattan. I have always respected you as a political figure and I always will I trust you as a great man of honor. In case that this authorization could be real, I ask you to please, reconsider it in the name of the victims that Cue Guevara killed in Cuba. Do not allow in NYC to erect an official monument to the violence as a tribute to a real enemy of this great nation. God Bless America !Pedro Cabrera
Alicia: I agree 100% with your comment. It is amazing to see how ignorant some people are, to have idolized a murderer, whose "heroic" feats were a total lie. He was nothing but the parasite son of a wealthy family, whose twisted ideology brought disgrace and pain to the Cuban people, whom he despised. This "hero" used to call on prisoners at La Cabaña prison and forced them naked on the esplanade after midnight, to yell Viva Fidel, helped by bayonets searing their naked bodies, as witnessed by an uncle of mine, who was also a prisoner there at the time. This Doctor in Medicine? , used to tell his junior offficers to "give Aspirine" to prisoners as a command to have them executed. Tha's how cynical he was. It is estimated that he executed over 2,500 prisoners during his tenure at La Cabaña. The best part is that he used to invite his "guests" to witness the executions. With this said, I can only feel sorry for whomever admires this beast, because in my opinion they are probably as twisted as he was. To have a statue of this entity in New York, is a total disregard for human life, but again, what do 2500 Cuban lives matter?, what do the ones who die, trying to escape Cuba matter? After all, the sharks in the straights of Florida need to be fed, what can be better to feed them than the men, women and children who die, in their quest for Freedom, after all they seem to be "expendable", nobody seems to care about their Human Rights. Thank you Alicia for raising your voice against this parasitic thug.
Good for you, Pedro! Glad to see you being involved. Thanks for reading and participating.
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHO PAYED FOR THIS STATUE IT IS INCREDIBLE TO THINK THIS TERRORIST THAT NEVER DID ANYTHING WORTHWHILE IN HIS LIFE BUT KILL PEOPLE IS IN A DEMOCRATIC COUNTRY PARK ......BY THE WAY FIDEL GOT RID OF HIM ......MAYBE WE SHOULD ALSO HAVE A STATUE OF HITLER FOR BALANCE D.DELGADO
This statue should be trashed. I can NOT believe that people are so ignorant as to the true acts of this monster, Che Guevara. Incredible that Mayor Bloomberg would even allow this to happen. There should be a petition of some sort banning this statue from existing. Wow - in this country of ours, we have nothing better to do than honor this assassin!
If a petition against this statue does not materialize, since nobody knows what political interests are behind it, granting approval from the city of New York and it"s Mayor, maybe the next best thing would be having this statue drenched in excrement every new day to remind passersby that that this is the same material he was made of and that there are people here that still respect Freedom.Although Freedom does not mean honoring a murderer. Let it not be said that this would be disrespecful to a dead person, since he was not a person, only an evil entity, who never showed any respect for anybody"s life. It"s only pay back time. As reader Delgado says maybe, there should be one for Hitler and for other famous murderers, like Stalin, Manson, why not Jack the Ripper and lastly the author of the HoloCastro, Mr Castro himself. Maybe the authorities should consider these candidates, as future subjects of glorification by the City of New York.
was che a bigger terrorist than w bush? i don't know; let god sort it out.
Dear Oppiano: When you wrote such a smart comment, where you maybe under the influence of Opium? just to "honor" your name. If President Bush, was a terrorist as you seem to think, there would not be idiots like yourself free to make such statements and continue with their lives. In a Communist paradise, that would have been considered a "crime against the State" enough to send all of you to the slammer. Your ignorance phases me, all the Che admirers have no idea of who he really was, or what he did or did not do. As for President Bush, only time will tell, may be within a few years all his bashers and hatters, will start to compare his past errors to the following catastrophes, which may make the first ones look like great achievements. Just to enlighten you a little bit, that Revolution that you seem to admire, gained power through bombs in public places, sabotage, blackouts and the rest of terrorist techniques. As you can see Terrorism, pays well, it creates dictators that last 50 + years, Mr Ernesto Guevara de la Serna, was only a piece of that puzzle, that brought disgrace to what used to be a properous country and continues to do so wherever his infamous shadow and doctrine reaches. Count your blessings Mr Oppiano, I hope you never have to experience what "Terrorism" really is.
Oppiano: I forgot one thing, one day God will judge Mr Bush, as he will judge all of us, but you know something I do not think he has wasted his time on the first arrival,Che must probably still be bouncing from one place to the other, in eternity, because nobody will want him in their corner.
But Dr. Pachauri and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change are now under intense scrutiny, facing accusations of scientific sloppiness and potential financial conflicts of interest from climate skeptics, right-leaning politicians and even some mainstream scientists. Senator John Barrasso, a Wyoming Republican, called for Dr. Pachauri’s resignation last week. Critics, writing in Britain’s Sunday Telegraph and elsewhere, have accused Dr. Pachauri of profiting from his work as an adviser to businesses, including Deutsche Bank and Pegasus Capital Advisors, a New York investment firm — a claim he denies. They have also unearthed and publicized problems with the intergovernmental panel’s landmark 2007 report on climate change, which concluded that the planet was warming and that humans were likely to blame.

The share of the blame comes as cracks are beginning to show in Emanuel’s once-impregnable political armor... on Capitol Hill he’s under fire for poor execution of the president’s healthcare agenda in the Senate... Senate Democrats grilled White House advisers last week during a special Senate Democratic retreat, expressing frustration over the lack of a clear plan. While Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) ripped chief political strategist David Axelrod, Senate Democrats say Emanuel, who was more closely involved in managing negotiations in Congress, also deserves scrutiny.

Michelle Obama defended her husband against some of his most vocal critics, saying President Obama did a "phenomenal" job this year and that change is a long-term process. The first lady talks about her nationwide campaign called "Let's Move." "I think my husband has done a phenomenal job staying on course, looking his critics in the eye, coming up with clear solutions against staying the course," Michelle Obama told Robin Roberts in an exclusive morning television interview on "Good Morning America." "That's what leadership is. But people have the right to criticize the President of the United States."Let me finish that last thought for you, Michelle. I see you rubbing your hands together and thinking, "Yes, for now people have the right to criticize him, but we're working on changing that."

In his letter, being sent out to Arpaio supporters today as part of a 100,000-person national direct mail drop, the sheriff calls Hayworth's decision to challenge McCain "courageous." And he pledges to help Hayworth "every step of the way." "Senator McCain has served this country admirably but it's time to replace his moderate or even liberal positions on taxes, the border, social causes and big bank bailouts with a consistent conservative like J.D.," Arpaio continues. "After years of running over Republican principles his entire career no election year conversion to our way of thinking will save his campaign from voters that want conservatives to be a part of the solution rather than part of the problem," he says.

McCain now finds himself jammed, moving starkly — and often awkwardly — to the right, apparently in an effort to gain favor among the same voters whom Mr. Hayworth, a consistent voice for the far right, could pull toward him like taffy come summer. McCain now sharply criticizes the bailout bill he voted for, pivoted from his earlier position that the Guantánamo Bay detention facility should be closed, offered only a muted response to the Supreme Court’s decision undoing campaign finance laws and backed down from statements that gays in the military would be O.K. by him... “John is undergoing a campaign conversion,” Mr. Hayworth said. Hayworth’s radio-personality bluster and big emotions.. may now have a part in the greater populist narrative that threatens many of the nation’s more centrist Republicans.

Iran said Tuesday that it had begun producing higher-grade enriched uranium, marking a new and potentially dangerous turn in Tehran's confrontation with the West over its nuclear ambitions... U.S. National Intelligence Director Dennis C. Blair told the House intelligence committee last week that "Iran has the scientific, the technical, the industrial capacity to produce enough highly enriched uranium for a weapon in the next few years and eventually to produce a nuclear weapon. The central issue is a political decision by Iran to do so."

I wouldn't want my fingerprints on anything this administration or congress proposes. Reid told reporters the bill would be introduced on Tuesday, and that it would include an extension of the tax breaks... Reid did not say how expensive the jobs bill would be. The Senate had been considering a package of roughly $80 billion. The House passed a larger jobs bill before Christmas, but now plans to unveil a different bill independent of that package, which did not garner Republican support.

Back in November, the House passed its health care bill by a narrow 220 to 215 margin, with 39 Democrats voting against it. Since then, the one Republican who voted for it — Joseph Cao — has indicated that he would not support the bill a second time around given the weaker language on abortion in the Senate version. In addition, Florida Rep. Robert Wexler already retired prematurely. Factor in Murtha’s death today, and Pelosi is down to 217 votes — one short of passage. To pass the bill at some point in the next few months, she’ll need to flip a Democrat who is already on record voting against the bill.

Don't think that Republicans can't be sucked in when an anti-Wall Street lynch mob gets its blood up. Recall that Sarbanes-Oxley, the devastating antigrowth response in 2002 to the Enron and Worldcom scandals, was passed with virtually unanimous support by Republicans in Congress, and signed by a Republican president. Recall that last year 85 House Republicans voted for a 90% tax on bonuses for any employee of any bank that took more than $5 billion in TARP money. Investors got some good news last Friday. Stocks resisted following through on Thursday's sharp plunge after (Congress) reached an impasse on bank re-regulation. That's a nice down payment on what investors need a lot more of now: proof that the GOP won't join Democrats in a populist rush to seek revenge against Wall Street.

Just two years after Mr. Obama helped his party pull in record Wall Street contributions — $89 million from the securities and investment business, according to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics — some of his biggest supporters, like Mr. Dimon, have become the industry’s chief lobbyists against his regulatory agenda. Republicans are rushing to capitalize on what they call Wall Street’s “buyer’s remorse” with the Democrats. And industry executives and lobbyists are warning Democrats that if Mr. Obama keeps attacking Wall Street “fat cats,” they may fight back by withholding their cash.

How would a Hitler look-alike appeal to New Yorkers ? Americans? People of conscience?
Is this Ignorance of Che's murderous and vicious acts against innocent people, destructive and immoral individual that embraced a political cause to unleash his evil and inhuman nature.
This is a disgrace
