The old news maxim 'if it bleeds, it leads' is the reason why nearly everyone in the country will hear or see this video of Rep. Joe Wilson (R. SC) calling Obama a liar before they hear anything else about the speech. Let's play first what we'll call the CNN clip.
That is the CNN clip because it shows Obama as the victim of a mean-spirited Republican thug who can't control himself and rudely attacks a president who is simply seeking to be bipartisan about the whole thing.
Except, when you see this second clip, with Wilson's heckle in context, you will see the source of the congressman's frustration. Let's listen to how Obama characterizes those who oppose ObamaCare. This one is from Gateway Pundit.
Hmmm. So Obama flat out calls opponents liars, with bogus claims, and cynical motives, and nobody seems to be phased. But 20 seconds later, when Wilson returns the exact same insult, the libs go crazy.
As Allahpundit notes, Obama's statement that illegals will not be covered is, in fact, a lie. And those 'Death Panels' are another way of saying that seniors' care, especially end-of-life care, will be rationed. Which is, in fact, true.
So for all his trouble, and the promise that this speech would finally give us some details about what Obama wants in a health care bill, he gave precious few specifics, didn't stand firm on the Public Option, which made the left unhappy, persuaded nobody on the right, and was reduced to a name-calling contest with the Republicans.
Lots of things were said, but the one thing that was sorely lacking tonight was the thing all good presidents must possess: Leadership. It just isn't in him.

We are clearly mighty frightened of dissenting opinions here. Please. While not frightened, we are aghast at your ignorance or willful disregard of what the Congressional Research Service said of HR3200:
“Under H.R. 3200, a ‘Health Insurance Exchange’ would begin operation in 2013 and would offer private plans alongside a public option…H.R. 3200 does not contain any restrictions on noncitzens—whether legally or illegally present, or in the United States temporarily or permanently—participating in the Exchange.”
Their goal is to remake the United States into a leftist paradise. We do not wish to work with the Democrats. We want them to stop trying to screw up the best health care system the world has ever seen. We want them to accomplish zero.
"...interrupting the President of the United States during a speech to Congress is not appropriate regardless of who it is or which party they belong to."
I had to get my tinfoil hat & dust it off to respond to this comment.
Thomas, This statement might have some veracity were it not for the fact that the man delivering the speech is not constitutionally eligible to be POTUS, & the democratic Congress is a bunch of socialist thugs. Neither of which deserves respect from anyone in the United States of America!
BTW, the guys at this site will let you libs whine all you want. They have no fear.
Dare? Thomas, get over yourself. Open debate is open debate. For a president that "offers to work with pubs" he has not invited them to speak about HC with him at the WH since April. If you have any sense of POTUS legislative history, this will speak volumes to you.
Further, listen to the discussion of HC being a right. Then look at the other rights in the Constitution and in our society. Assign them to the Constitutional terms "citizens," "residents," and "people." I am sure if you do that, the truth will come to you. Yes, you do the homework.
Do me a favor - don't even use the phrase "I dare you." It's stupid, and makes you look like - how did Van Jones put it? oh yes - an a-hole.
Thomas, we've been hearing for months, that anywhere from 45-50 million were uninsured and magically that number shrinks to 30 million during his campaign speech tonight. Now, either Nobama was lying then or is lying now, which is it? I'm hearing that the public option also comes with kool-aid, drink up lost soul.
and of those 30 million, half can afford insurance but choose not to buy it. Which of course leaves 15 million or so uninsured that can't afford it, and that number is what the CBO says as well. A far cry from the "10's of millions" that the president said last night.
Obama, you LIE!!! All Wilson did is speak for millions of Americans who are being ignored by Obama and his bots.
Thomas, what about 2005 when Pres. Bush was jeered and booed at by the Dems in Congress when he tried to explain that Social Security was on the ropes and in deep trouble (which it was and is)
Was that not rather inappropraite.
And I agree with rjjrdq: All Wilson did was speak for millions of Americans who were yelling at their tv's
I just wanted to know if it's disrespect full to call President Obama Mr. instead of President? I just notice on alot of news broadcast they address him as Mr. Obama and than five min later they will say Vice President Biden. This President Obama was doomed for being black from the door. I think it's sad. People dont want to believe a black man could actually maybe get us out of this mess.
I think the protocol allows for the president to be addressed as "Mr. Obama" in print or in a news story, but not in person. I think you are looking for racism where it doesn't exist. Do you believe it is possible to oppose the policies of a black politician without being a racist? Remember, if everything is racist, then nothing is.
The left just doesn't get that no one is hollering racism except the left. If anyone says anything that is not complimentary about the fool in the WH it is considered racist. Personally, I'm sick to death of the racism charges.
Gee, what is Lloyd Marcus - what is Thomas Sowell? Um, last time I checked they were both black & both very much anti-obama. Are they racist? If not, what accounts for their dislike of the criminal in chief? Could it be that they disagree with the socialist policies he is trying to shove down our throats?
Don't you think it is possible to disagree with someone of a different race without taking race into consideration? If not, how shallow of you! Maybe you should stop watching TV & reading all those liberal rags that pass for newspapers these days.
Race is not the issue with that man! The issue is that he is an incompetent, narcissistic, Chicago thug who is most likely constitutionally ineligible to hold the office of POTUS. That's it.
No racism involved in that statement at all. Deal with it or shut up.
Back in November, the House passed its health care bill by a narrow 220 to 215 margin, with 39 Democrats voting against it. Since then, the one Republican who voted for it — Joseph Cao — has indicated that he would not support the bill a second time around given the weaker language on abortion in the Senate version. In addition, Florida Rep. Robert Wexler already retired prematurely. Factor in Murtha’s death today, and Pelosi is down to 217 votes — one short of passage. To pass the bill at some point in the next few months, she’ll need to flip a Democrat who is already on record voting against the bill.

Don't think that Republicans can't be sucked in when an anti-Wall Street lynch mob gets its blood up. Recall that Sarbanes-Oxley, the devastating antigrowth response in 2002 to the Enron and Worldcom scandals, was passed with virtually unanimous support by Republicans in Congress, and signed by a Republican president. Recall that last year 85 House Republicans voted for a 90% tax on bonuses for any employee of any bank that took more than $5 billion in TARP money. Investors got some good news last Friday. Stocks resisted following through on Thursday's sharp plunge after (Congress) reached an impasse on bank re-regulation. That's a nice down payment on what investors need a lot more of now: proof that the GOP won't join Democrats in a populist rush to seek revenge against Wall Street.

Just two years after Mr. Obama helped his party pull in record Wall Street contributions — $89 million from the securities and investment business, according to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics — some of his biggest supporters, like Mr. Dimon, have become the industry’s chief lobbyists against his regulatory agenda. Republicans are rushing to capitalize on what they call Wall Street’s “buyer’s remorse” with the Democrats. And industry executives and lobbyists are warning Democrats that if Mr. Obama keeps attacking Wall Street “fat cats,” they may fight back by withholding their cash.

The Dow, down almost 104 points, had its 10th triple-digit move in 16 trading days. Shares of big banks pulled the market lower, extending a slump that has led to four straight weekly losses.I can't, for the life of me, understand why bank stocks would be dropping. Inexplicable.

Contrary to President Obama's promises, voters say special interests have more influence on the political process now than they did a year ago, according to a new poll. The poll, paid for by groups looking to curb the Supreme Court's recent campaign finance ruling, found that majorities of both Republicans and Democrats say special interests have increased their influence since the president took office, and they say Mr. Obama has not done enough to fight back.

If the starting point for this meeting is the job-killing bills the American people have already soundly rejected, Republicans would rightly be reluctant to participate,” the pair explained in a letter to White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel. They also said President Barack Obama should remove reconciliation from the table. Using budget reconciliation rules to move healthcare reform in the Senate would mean Democrats would only need 51 votes on procedural measures instead of 60... On Sunday afternoon however, Obama refused to say he would start from scratch.

An announcement from his office said Murtha died at 1:18 p.m. at the Virginia Hospital Center, where he had been admitted last week after having his gallbladder removed at Bethesda Naval Hospital.

The scientist at the centre of the “climategate” email scandal has revealed that he was so traumatised by the global backlash against him that he contemplated suicide. Jones, 57, said he was unprepared for the scandal: “I am just a scientist. I have no training in PR or dealing with crises.”Actually, he's using the term "scientist" loosely there, given that real scientists don't do what he did. And while he may not have any training dealing with crises, he sure was good at generating one: it was called the global warming crisis.

First of all, even if his outburst were true (which it is clearly not), interrupting the President of the United States during a speech to Congress is not appropriate regardless of who it is or which party they belong to. Bush lied for 8 solid years, but Dems still respected his position enough to not pull this kind of nonsense.
Second, how many times do you need to hear Obama and every Dem say it before you will finally accept that the bill does not offer health care to illegal immigrants? Read the bill and tell me where it says that. It's ridiculous and like every other bogus GOP claim there is absolutely nothing to back it up.
Maybe if you focused on working WITH the Democrats you could actually get something done. Obama has consistently offered to work with Republicans and received no support from them at all. Now I dare you to actually post this comment and prove that you're not scared of opinions from someone who doesn't believe the same things you do...
