It was December 23, 1981, and the Gipper was finishing his first year in office. Indeed, he had been president for exactly as long as Obama has been president today. Reagan's approval rating was at 49% and the country was in a deep recession, just as it is now.
Despite all that, listen to Reagan and see if you hear doom and gloom, sky is falling, catastrophe-awaits-just-around-the-corner rhetoric, like we do today. As you listen, is there any doubt in your mind that he thinks his country is the greatest place on Earth and the wellspring of freedom for all? Is there any hint that he is not proud of his country? He celebrates American faith, families, and exceptionalism.
What are the odds that Barack Obama would ever give a speech like this?
Merry Christmas from one proud American to all other proud Americans and your families.

Ohhh, what many of us would give to get another Reagan. Our nation really needs someone great to step up to the plate in 2012, but I honestly don't see that person right now.
Reagan believed the country needed itself to be saved, not more government. Obama believes the country needs more government and less of itself to be saved.
wow, thank you for posting this. I was born after Reagan's term, I had no idea about his love for America and his understanding of the uniqueness of America
You guys have truely opened my eyes, I will be reading and listening to more of Reagan's speeceh and about his presidency.
He makes me proud to be an American, no apologies, no bowing, none of that lunatic behavior.
Thanks patriot room guys, I learn something new from your site everyday!
I'm forwarded this youtube clip to many of my friends, it will open their eyes as well.
Thank you, and glad you're enjoying it. If you don't remember Reagan and don't know a lot about him, you're going to appreciate what you learn. We've written and posted numerous pieces about him and speeches by him. Put his name in our search bar and you'll find a wealth of info. Happy reading and Merry Christmas.
Bill Dupray: "What are the odds that Barack Obama would ever give a speech like this?"
Zero, zip, and zilch
Yeah, it was pretty much a rhetorical question.
Boodad, I think you are rounding up to the nearest null value.

House Republicans approved a conference-wide moratorium on earmarks on Thursday one day after a House committee enacted a ban on for-profit earmarks. The Republican's moratorium is more extensive than the House Appropriations Committee's ban in that it applies to all earmarks for all members of their caucus. "For millions of Americans, the earmark process in Congress has become a symbol of a broken Washington," they said. "We believe the time has come for House Republicans to adopt an immediate, unilateral moratorium on all earmarks."

Gallup's annual update on Americans' attitudes toward the environment shows a public that over the last two years has become less worried about the threat of global warming, less convinced that its effects are already happening, and more likely to believe that scientists themselves are uncertain about its occurrence. In response to one key question, 48% of Americans now believe that the seriousness of global warming is generally exaggerated, up from 41% in 2009 and 31% in 1997, when Gallup first asked the question. That increase to 48% is fully 7 points higher than last year, which was also a record high.

Few could come anywhere near Ronald Reagan. But the current placeholder of his office is a disgrace to it and the principles upon which it was founded.
