- Harrison, that commission is a cop-out that allows members of congress to avoid making tough calls on taxes and spending, which, after all, is in their job description. It gives everybody cover and they can blame a commission. If they wanted to increase or reduce spending, just do it. If they want to raise or cut taxes, just do it. Only congressmen who are afraid of what the people will do when they learn about the votes are in favor of the commission. After all, who needs a commission to decide to cut taxes and spending? I would be the first one to the microphone to announce my support.
These cowardly critters who represent us need to stand up and do their jobs.

It has been a year, they haven't even spent half the money (some emergency), and it was a failure, causing unemployment to increase to 10%. I hope they keep doing what they are doing. Perhaps Barney Frank is in the "go slow" crowd this morning because Scott Brown carried his district last night and Frank is the poster-boy for the left's radical authoritarian agenda.
On Feinstein's comment that nobody understands the bill and everybody is confused, I would note that it is she who doesn't understand the American people (who know full well what the libs are trying to do) and, therefore she is the one who is confused. Classic elitist statement.

The polls now are even worse than they were last month for the Dems and yet they keep doing what they are doing. Why would those election results not be repeated across the country next year? They will. The madder people get the better it is for our side.
for Will the cloture vote drama sink Obamacare? on 2009-12-21 20:24:19
- Not sure I know the answer Arkady, but rest assured there will be plenty of time to start dismantling this if it passes. There is a great piece over at Hot Air about ways to shred it. For example, if (when) the GOP takes bad the Senate, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) could introduce a budgetary bill that guts the funding for parts of Obamacare. Under reconciliation (the Byrd) rule, they only need 51 votes for that and it is not filibusterable. They could tack that onto a key piece of legislation and Obama can then veto it or fight it out. If Obamacare remains unpopular (and bad cheese never smells better with the passage of time) then he's got a losing battle on his hands. What if Republicans ran on a platform of repealing the requirement to purchase insurance and abolished the tax penalty and jail time associated with that? Who would oppose that? Is Obama going to say that everybody should have to buy it? Kind of arrogant isn't it? The bill is bad. It is indefensible. And it presents a target-rich environment.
I am not worried.
