I missed noting that last Saturday would have been my all-time political hero's 99th birthday. We miss you, Ron. Watch and listen to this speech, his 1988 State of the Union address, and you will miss him more as you compare his words and ideas with Barack Obama's sorry recent performance.
It's all good (actually, you may want to skip the 10-second part where he urges confirmation of Justice Kennedy.. I almost got sick there), but if you want to focus on the red meat that pertains to our economic and budget crises, start at about the 11-minute mark and watch at least through to the 19-minute mark. An excerpt from the full text:
Let's recall that in seven years, of 91 appropriations bills scheduled to arrive on my desk by a certain date, only 10 made it on time. Last year, of the 13 appropriations bills due by October 1st, none of them made it. Instead, we had four continuing resolutions lasting 41 days, then 36 days, and two days, and three days, respectively. And then, along came these behemoths. This is the conference report - 1,053 page report weighing 14 pounds. Then this - a reconciliation bill six months late, that was 1,186 pages long, weighing 15 pounds; and the long-term continuing resolution - this one was two months late and it's 1,057 pages long, weighing 14 pounds. That was a total of 43 pounds of paper and ink. You had three hours - yes, three hours - to consider each, and it took 300 people at my Office of Management and Budget just to read the bill so the government wouldn't shut down. Congress shouldn't send another one of these. No and if you do, I will not sign it.

It is simply not possible for the liberals to arrive at any end point based upon logic or reason. They are working their way towards the logical fallacy of managing society through its vices. Let's first look at its willing accomplice - the main-stream media. FOX News posted on the nine big stories that the MSM chose to ignore (see the link for further details). Let's group the stories to find the common threads:

Some interesting results from the latest Rasmussen poll on illegal immigration show that voters overwhelmingly support conservative public policy on the issue.
U.S. voters want aggressive action to restrict illegal immigration, but they don’t think immigrants should bear the brunt of the enforcement efforts on their own. Most say the federal government and those hiring illegal immigrants also need to be brought into the discussion. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 56% say the policies of the federal government encourage people to enter the United States illegally. Only 27% disagree, and 17% are not sure.

This is my weekly attempt at catching up on what I've missed while enjoying my family over the weekend. Here are some of my favorite blog posts written over the past couple of days.
Hot Air: Whom do You Trust?
The data on health care and education show how poorly the Democrats have performed. On both questions, their overall edge falls in the margin of error in the polling; education, Democrats lead by three points (41%-38%) and on health care, four points (46%-42%). On Social Security, the gap goes to 42%-37% GOP, with independents evenly split. In Ethics in Government, the results have gone back to a statistical tie, with the GOP up by a point (34%-33%).

This is the weekly post where I celebrate the fact that I have successfully made it through another weekend without posting anything on Saturday or Sunday. I offer this up to those - like me - who need to catch up on what they missed over the weekend. Here are some of the more interesting, entertaining, informational, or just downright funny right-wing blog posts from this weekend.
Commonsense Political Thought: Thug-o-Crats
Obama, for all of his glitter, should be seen as a corrupt Chi-Town pol who married a ward-heelers daughter and absorbed the verbal venom of a hustling and racist tub-thumper but claimed never to have heard anything offensive in the sermons.

Barack Obama's Teleprompter's Blog: My Notre Dame Speech
As Rahm and Axelrod told Big Guy.. Rockne and those sports guys, let alone Jesus, have nothing on him with a teleprompter and the best of Lincoln, Martin Luther King and 14 obscure baptist ministers borrowed and changed just enough to make it seem original.
All American Blogger: The War on our Southern Border
In 2008, 6,292 Mexicans were killed in the drug wars between the drug cartels. In the first eight weeks of 2009, there were already a thousand casualties, some of them beheaded. By way of comparison, in six years of war in Iraq, this exceeds U.S. losses by more

Scott asked us to consider writing why we call ourselves conservatives.
Related: Clyde is a Conservative because...
I would have to say that I've only recently identified myself as a conservative. I honestly don't know if I fill all the "requirements" of a conservative, or even a Republican for that matter. For me it is more about facts, logic, and common sense.
You see, I'm a software developer by trade. I deal largely with absolutes, black and white, if you will. Most of my thinking is centered on common sense and doing what works. Now anyone remotely familiar with my career field knows that there are a million ways to do the same thing and this good, it provides choices. There are also just as many ways to screw something up. Most of these are due to trying to pile on too much, making it too complicated for the task at hand, or just lack of knowledge: Ignorance by definition.

Scott asked me to consider writing about why I call myself a conservative.
Related: Robert is a Conservative because...
Interesting inquiry. First, it is not my label, but one from American society. I don’t accept or reject it; I merely acknowledge it. I have my personal beliefs which I have come to understand through 50 years of life. To merely launch into Conservative Q&A Bona Fides seems to lack context, so I am going to answer the question with some background.
I feel like I am at some support group where I stand to say, “Hi, my name is Clyde. I’ve been a Conservative for ____ days” and then show everyone my elephant charm hanging from a golden chain around my neck. They all clap. I fight back tears and smile broadly;

When the liberals are seen as being on the side of economic liberty, and conservatives are seen as opposing it, something has gone seriously awry. But such is the case right now on at least one issue: online gambling. And Barney Frank (of all people) is the voice of reason.
U.S. Representative Barney Frank will unveil legislation on Wednesday to roll back a U.S. ban on online gambling, he said in a statement on Tuesday. The new bill would exempt operators that are licensed and regulated from the ban enacted in 2006, Frank said.
The Massachusetts Democrat said his legislation "will enable Americans

Here are some of Patriot Room's picks for the best, most interesting and most entertaining of the conservative web this weekend. Lots of good videos this weekend:
A Political Dookie: Hey, Where's my Freebies?
It seems Henrietta Hughes, poster woman for all who feel victimized and entitled, is still struggling. Two videos at the link.
Barking Moonbat: Taliban Filmed Killing Couple for Adultery
It would appear the left has not considered the downside to them of Sharia Law.
Yes. Really.
Dirty Democrats: Democrat Congressman Admits Cap & Trade is a "Great, Big Tax"
The initiative will cost American families $700 to $1,400 dollars each year. Just the thing America needs during recession.
Hey, about not raising taxes on the middle class... Video and more links to more interesting stuff at the link.
Flopping Aces: Republican Lawmaker Lays into Gore About Ties to Firm set to make Millions off Cap & Trade
Can you just imagine the outcry if a Republican was a major partner in a firm set to receive a major windfall from legislation?
Instead, I'm envisioning Democrats with their fingers in their ears screaming "Halliburton" repeatedly. Or, as I call it, more of the same tired practices that got us where we are today. Video at the link.
Lefties love Bill Dupray: "If you are unfamiliar with this guy, he's the kind of moron who shouldn't be allowed out in public without and [sic] escort and a special helmet. Everything on Patriot Room is either 1)wrong or 2) news to exactly nobody." - Daily Kos
Now back to Bill Dupray he's a rising star amongst the right-wing misinformers . . .. As stated in the opening he operates the republican gin-mill called the Patriot Room and uses it as his platform for disseminating his rabid anti-democratic, anti-liberal propaganda and judging by the traffic to his site and google hits he dispenses a lot of neo-con kool-aide. - Barack Obama's Organizing for America community blog
"I really thought that the last [post] Dupray wrote was one of the most brilliant things I’ve read this whole debate." - Dan Perrin, RedState
