Senator John McCain has never faced a serious test for his Arizona seats, scoring five resounding victories and garnering 77 percent of the vote in the 2004 election, but it looks like he could have a major fight from a highly-respected conservative critic, former Congressman and current talk radio host J.D. Hayworth.
The latest Rasmussen poll shows some numbers that may startle outsiders to Arizona's political scene.
A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely 2010 Republican Primary voters in Arizona finds the longtime incumbent in a virtual tie with potential challenger J.D. Hayworth. McCain earns 45% of the vote, while Hayworth picks up 43%.
Hayworth, a harsh critic of McCain on immigration policy who doggedly attacks the senior Senator over his many breaks with conservative ideology most afternoons and evenings on his highly rated Phoenix talk show, has not yet announced his candidacy.

No raids. No guns. No ICE. And the taxpayers don't use a dime of border patrol money to get it done. From the L.A. Times via The Corner
No immigration agents descended on Overhill Farms, a major food-processing plant in Vernon. No one was arrested or deported. There were no frantic scenes of desperate workers fleeing la migra through the gritty streets of the industrial suburb southeast of downtown Los Angeles. For more than 200 Overhill workers, however, the effect was devastating: All lost steady jobs last month and now find themselves in a precarious employment market, without severance pay or medical insurance. It wasn't a hot tip or an undercover informant that helped seal their fates, but a computer check of Social Security numbers. "A desktop raid" is ...

It appears that Arizona's Democrat Governor, Janet Napolitano, has been tapped by Obama for Homeland Security. Scott at Conservatism Today says that her departure is good for Arizona, but bad for the United States, as it seems that Napolitano couldn't catch an illegal Mexican if she were giving away free beer and American passports in a Mexican border town on Cinco de Mayo. But through a cool quirk of Arizona law, the Governor is succeeded by the Secretary of State, who is a Republican named Jan Brewer. An observation from The Campaign Spot.
Since Arizona is experiencing a budget crisis, how much of this was a desire to "get out of town" before a meltdown ruins her reputation? ... We will now have a Republican governor because the Secretary of State is Jan Brewer. ...

Wanna chew some aspirin? Let’s go … This is a story, albeit bereft of links to substantiate only because I am too lazy to find them, of how sausage is made. If you know that warm, cozy feeling of sitting at the table with your Jimmy Dean and a few aborted chickens over-easy, then http://www.judicialwatch.org/files/2007/022008HazletonAppealBrief.pdf %20" target="My Aisling Link">here is the final sausage, all grilled up purty. The link is a pretty legal brief in support of a town local to me. The town, Hazleton, passed an ordinance some time ago requiring landlords and businesses to get proof of citizenship prior to renting to or hiring employees. The brief looks so official and makes a sound constitutional argument. I am sure the local political hacks feel smart when they read it. Here’s the reality. ...
Lefties love Bill Dupray: "If you are unfamiliar with this guy, he's the kind of moron who shouldn't be allowed out in public without and [sic] escort and a special helmet. Everything on Patriot Room is either 1)wrong or 2) news to exactly nobody." - Daily Kos
Now back to Bill Dupray he's a rising star amongst the right-wing misinformers . . .. As stated in the opening he operates the republican gin-mill called the Patriot Room and uses it as his platform for disseminating his rabid anti-democratic, anti-liberal propaganda and judging by the traffic to his site and google hits he dispenses a lot of neo-con kool-aide. - Barack Obama's Organizing for America community blog
